About
Storyflames is run by Läsfrämjarinstitutet, a non-profit association promoting reading through literature, art and culture.
We work with children and young people, and with the adults around them: parents, teachers, librarians and other key people. The work takes place in socioeconomically disadvantaged areas where access to literature, culture and creativity is limited.
The stories here are collected through interviews. Everyone taking part has approved their text and can ask us to remove it at any time. Some names have been changed at the request of the participants.
The site is available in Swedish, English and Arabic. Each story is published in the language it was told in and translated from there.
How the stories are collected
We listen
An interview on location: at school, at the library or at home. The storyteller chooses the language.
We write it down
The text is written together with the storyteller and approved before anything is published.
We translate
Every story is translated into Swedish, English and Arabic by translators we have worked with for years.
”He thought I was helping him. It was really the other way around.”
