The library became my second home

Amira went there because it was warm. She stayed because someone asked what she wanted to read.

The first time I walked into the library it was because it was raining. I had an hour before practice and nowhere to be. I sat by the window at the back and pretended to read a newspaper.

”Nobody had ever asked me that before. What I wanted to read.”

After a week one of the librarians came over and asked what I liked to read. I said I do not read. She said that was not what she had asked.

Now I have my own card and borrow four books at a time. My little brother comes with me on Tuesdays. He only reads comics so far, but he reads.

Sometimes I think about how close I came to never walking in. It was raining. That was the only reason.
